This is a very interesting antique bracelet with insect motifs – probably scarabs – decorated with detailed gilding. Based on the design, construction and decorative details, it can be attributed to the late Victorian or Edwardian era (around 1890–1915). At the end of the 19th century, after the boom in Egyptian discoveries, scarabs became very popular in Victorian symbolism (Egyptomania). Decorative relief engraving – a complex, deep pattern with dots and crown-like details is characteristic of the period when craftsmanship was praised. It is gilded metal (may be “rolled gold” or tombac with gilding). Such bracelets were often not made of pure gold, but of stronger metal alloys with a gold layer.
