Majorica is a company based in Mallorca, Spain, founded in 1890, that produces handmade pearls called Majorica pearls. Gems & Gemology describes these pearls as “the most widely sold and meticulously crafted imitation pearl.” Majorica pearls are a patented coating made from fish scales applied to glass beads. The pearls are then dried, polished, and immersed in a chemical to harden the surface and protect against discoloration and cracking. These pearls are of high quality, making them virtually indistinguishable from natural pearls.
