This necklace is made oftagua, the so-called "vegetable ivory"that is extracted fromthe nuts of South American palm trees(especially those of the Phytelephasgenus). It is one ofthe most environmentally friendly and durable organic materials, and has been used for jewelry, buttons and handicrafts since the late 19th century.The necklace has a gently curved, imperfect shape, typical ofnatural polished nuts.
