18 KT – this is a mark of 18 carat gold (high purity). HGE – stands for “Heavy Gold Electroplate”, i.e. a thick electrochemically applied layer of gold on a base metal (usually brass or a metal alloy). This is not “gold-filled”, but an electrochemical coating used in mass-produced costume jewelry in the mid-20th century. The ring has an open openwork crown and a green cabochon stone (nephrite, aventurine or serpentine). The decor resembles filigree, with volutes (twisted details), which are very characteristic of: the Retro period (1935–1950) or Vintage costume jewelry from the 1960s–1970s. Since the HGE marking was widely used from ~1960 to 1980, and the style is quite romantic and openwork, the date is likelycirca 1965-1975. The "V" in the diamond shape often corresponds to Van Dell Jewelry, a well-known US manufacturer active from the 1930s to the 1980s-1990s.
